Correspondence Concerning Pesticides and GMOs
Perception: Texas Agricultural Commissioner, Sid Miller, supervises the Integrated Pest Management Program to insure students are protected from exposure to pesticides. He actively monitors pesticide residues in foods served to students in public schools and is protecting students from chronic oral pesticide exposure.
Reality: Currently, the Integrated Pest Management Program does not protect students from chronic oral pesticide exposure. Texas Agricultural Commissioner, Sid Miller, is relying on inaccurate information concerning pesticide residues in school foods and IS NOT protecting students from chronic oral pesticide exposure in public schools.
On March 14, 2016, Commissioner Sid Miller states there are low doses of glyphosate in foods served to children in public school, however, on May 18, 2017 the FDA stated in a memo: "FDA has never monitored glyphosate and the acid herbicides in its regulatory pesticide program."

Key Points:
*" Glyphosate is the most widely used pesticide in the world and the acid herbicides include five of the top 10 active ingredients used in the home and garden sector: mecoprop, dicamba, triclopyr, pelargonic acid, and 2,4-D (also one of the most commonly used pesticides in the world)."
*"FDA has never monitored glyphosate and the acid herbicides in its regulatory pesticide program."
*" In its audit of the FDA’s pesticide program, GAO noted that glyphosate and 2,4-D were among the most commonly used pesticides in the United States, but that FDA has rarely tested for these pesticides in its regulatory monitoring program or disclosed the fact that it does not test for these pesticides."
